Empower Specialists’ 5-Step Behaviour Support Process

Compassionate. Person-centred. Evidence-based.

At Empower Specialists, we partner with families and support networks to deliver Positive Behaviour Support that is grounded in empathy, respect, and dignity. Our 5-step process aligns with NDIS timelines and puts the person at the centre of every decision.
1

Compassionate Connection

What We Do: We build trust in the first week through empathetic listening, open conversation, and genuine respect.
Our Focus: We explore what triggers behaviours by understanding the environment and context.
Why It Matters: A strong, compassionate start creates a safe space for meaningful support.
2

Empowered Assessment

What We Do: During the first month, we work with the individual and their support team to assess behaviours using practical tools.
Our Focus: We use Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) to identify the purpose behind behaviours.
Why It Matters: This process empowers the person to shape their own support and be seen beyond the behaviour.
3

Dignity-First Interim Plan

What We Do: If needed, we develop an interim plan within the first month to offer safe, immediate support.
Our Focus: We reinforce positive behaviours early using proactive strategies.
Why It Matters: This step provides practical, respectful support while the comprehensive plan is being developed.
4

Empathetic Long-Term Plan

What We Do: Over 6 months, we co-create a personalised Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP) that reflects the person’s goals and values.
Our Focus: We teach new skills, reduce behaviours of concern, and support positive change.
Why It Matters: A well-rounded, evidence-based plan builds confidence, independence, and long-term success.
5

Ongoing Compassionate Support

What We Do: We support implementation with care - providing training for family and support workers, monitoring progress, and making adjustments when needed.
Our Focus: We promote generalisation - ensuring skills work across home, community, and support settings.
Why It Matters: This step sustains positive change with dignity, ensuring the person and their team feel supported.
